  • Hiam El Hilali is the secondary social studies teacher at ASI where she has been teaching History and Politics during the last six years. She has a master’s degree in International Studies & Diplomacy, summa cum laude, from the Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane. She is also a certified teacher from Sunderland University in England where she obtained a post-graduate degree (PGCE) in Education. As a teacher she continuously seeks new teaching methods that emphasize on critical thinking, problem solving, and employing a student-centered pedagogy. Ms. El Hilali is an active volunteer and she is particularly concerned with displaced persons and climate change. In school, she initiated the Syrian Refugees Project where students had a first-hand experience in humanitarian work with Syrian refugees in Morocco. In 2014, she initiated the Model UN Club where students get to debate global issues and participate in conferences nation-wide. As the world is becoming increasingly bi-polar, filled with fake news, and with entirely displaced populations, it is more necessary than ever to raise awareness among students about global issues through a variety of activities for a better understanding and awareness of the problems we face in the 21st century. Other than teaching, Ms. El Hilali likes to read, write, and play piano. Lately, she co-authored an article about the Moroccan historical figure Zaynab Al Nafzawiyya which was published by Oxford University Press.
