In this task you will learn to:

  • search for specific information within a web site
  • create a reference citation for a web page

Instructions

Activity 1

You would like to study in Canada or the United States.  Build a new folder in your collection of links and name it Study Overseas.

  1. Choose one of the following universities to investigate:
    • Concordia University (in Montreal, Canada) at http://www.concordia.ca
    • Georgetown University (in Washington, D.C.) at http://www.georgetown.edu
    • Indiana University (in Bloomington, Indiana) at http://www.iub.edu
  2. Go to the university's home page. Add it to the Study Overseas folder of your collection of links.
  3. Within the university's web site, find the answers to the questions below. Write the answers in your own words. (Do not use cut and paste.) Save a link to each web page where you found information in your Study Overseas folder.

A. What is the application deadline for the academic year 2006-07?

B. What is the cost of tuition and housing for international students? How much spending money is recommended?

C. What are the admission requirements for students transferring from non-US colleges and universities?

D. Can students transfer credits? If so, what kinds of courses can they transfer, and how many?

Activity 2

  1. Go to the United Nations web site at: http://www.un.org/ .
  2. Create a new folder in your collection of links and name it United Nations.
  3. Answer the following questions and or complete the following tasks from information found on this site. Save a link to each page where you have gathered information.
  4. Collect the information you will need to create a complete and accurate APA reference for each web page where you have gathered information.
    NB: To create a complete and accurate APA reference for a web page, you will need to collect the specific information. Although you may copy it down, it's much better to avoid mistakes by copying and pasting the information you need.
  5. After you have finished, follow the example to create reference citations for each of the pages you gathered information from.
