Task 10: Tabulating Data and Creating Charts IV

Objectives

In this task you will learn to:

  • Practice building Excel spreadsheets based on collated data.
  • Practice building Excel charts to display the data.
  • Practice exporting Excel spreadsheets and charts to Word.

Instructions

You are writing a paper on mobile phone use at AUI. You have completed a survey (a copy of the survey appears in the file survey.doc) and have started to draft a paper (which appears in the file mobile.doc) to report the results.

Activity 1

Open the phones.xls workbook that you created and saved before. Create a new spreadsheet by pulling down the Insert menu and choosing Worksheet. This new spreadsheet will be blank.

Build a spreadsheet showing the payment plans used by AUI students. Format and label the spreadsheet and chart appropriately.

This activity refers to data collected in question nine of the mobile use survey. The collated data is as follows:

From this data you should build an Excel spreadsheet table. Format the spreadsheet to match the table below.

Name this spreadsheet Plan by typing this name on the tab at the bottom of the Excel window. Save the workbook.

Activity 2

Build a chart (using the data from your Plan spreadsheet) showing the number of students who use each type of payment plan for their phones. Format the chart to the following specifications. Follow the instructions in Tips for Formatting Chart Elements Using Excel.
