Module 1: Using Computers, LANs, and Email for Academic Coursework
Task 1: Logon to the Network
Name: _______________________ Instructor: __________________ Section:
________
Objectives
In this task you will learn to:
- logon to the Multi Media Lab LAN (local area network)
- logon to the AUI LAN
- connect to your personal partition on the AUI LAN
Instructions
Each time you attend class, you must logon to the AUI LAN (local
area network). This will give you secure access to your own files,
stored in your partition on the network. You will also have access
to these files when you logon properly from anywhere else on the
AUI LAN. (The logon process in other labs on campus may be slightly
different.)
You must also logoff from the network before you leave class. This
protects your files from use by others and allows other students
to quickly logon to the network for class.
Your instructor will provide a demonstration and a handout to help
you learn to logon and logoff the first time. This web page offers
only a brief review of the steps.
NB: Do NOT record your userid or password in your noteook!
You should memorize these and NEVER reveal them to anyone
else. They will help you to protect your files on the network.
