Implementing, Monitoring and Evaluating Clean Energy Systems (Solar/Wind) in the Middle-Atlas

Within its mission of regional development, the CEIRD promotes renewable energy use (Solar/Wind) in close collaboration with all stakeholders mainly the local population.
A rural School, located at the neighbourhood of the University, Ait Lahcen was selected for implementing a solar/wind system through the support and contribution of Hand in Hand Association. This initiative benefited 120 scholars and few teachers who discovered light and water through local energy sources wind and sun. This allows them to stay longer at school mainly in winter and to have better sanitary conditions.
The School now operates as a regional Solar /Wind laboratory and contributes to raise environmental awareness in addition to the benefit of well being.
The small village located in the surrounding of the school is now considering renewable energy system following the assistance and advice of the researchers from the AUI CEIRD and the Solar /Wind laboratory of Ait Lahcen School.

September 2003

A pilot site for a solar thermic system at Al Akhawayn University Campus

This unique education experiment in the Middle Atlas aims to raise environmental awareness by demonstration of the use of solar power energy. It is an opportunity for students/interns at the AUI CEIRD to carry solar projects, to test the efficiency of the system and make recommendation for extending the pilot experiment to other university buildings.
Through promoting local renewable energy sources, the CEIRD will contribute to environmental education, to the reduction of energy consumption at the University and to the global greenhouse gas emissions reduction, to setting an example within the region and encouraging the community to set similar solar systems.
