Celebration of the 2005 World Wetlands Day
Azrou, February 2nd,
2005
In the framework of environmental
awareness and education programs and its partnership with the Education office
of Ifrane Province, Prof. B. Raissouni participated to the 2005 World Wetlands
Day at Azrou city celebrated at Lycee Tarik Azrou .
More than 100 scholars and 30 teachers and Engineers from Forestry Department,
National center of Wetlands were present in this event . Scholars, teachers and
other participants were delighted about the natural potential of the Middle
Atlas and the need to act locally for the preservation of the site.
Prof. Raissouni insisted on the importance of acting locally in Afenourir Ramsar
site threatened by human pressure. Young scholars with the help of their
teachers should take initiatives to organize regular cleanliness campaigns on
site during the year, learn more about the ecosystem potential in the field and
carry awareness and educational programs to the local community.
All local decision makers present (Azrou forestry service, Education Agency in
Ifrane, Center of Wetlands/Birdlife NGO, School Directors...) promise to give
support to any activity which will contribute to the conservation of the
wetlands and to sustainable development of the region.
The AUI-CEIRD can encourage all initiatives by assisting on a sustainable basis
for the organization in collaboration with its networks and by providing support
and training to environmental young leaders, teachers and NGOs representatives.
