Chapter 2: POSITION DESCRIPTION
K. DIRECTOR GROUNDS AND MAINTENANCE:
Position Title:
Director of Grounds & Maintenance
Functional Description:
The Director of Grounds & Maintenance is responsible for providing
professional administrative and management leadership in the development,
use, maintenance and operation of the physical plant and grounds
of the University.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides leadership in planning for physical
facilities and grounds and maintains current
plans.
- Is responsible for the protection of the natural environment
(forest, rivers and wildlife) on the University's property.
- Develops and implements policies and procedures to prevent
environmental pollution.
- Provides administrative and management leadership for:
- building maintenance;
- grounds maintenance;
- custodial services;
- utility systems and operations; and
- shipping and receiving services.
- Is responsible for the development and implementation of a
preventive maintenance program for the campus.
- Develops and administers the operating budget for the Division.
- Selects, appoints, supervises and evaluates staff of the Division.
Reporting Line:
Reports to the Vice President for Finance
and Administration.
Span of Control:
Reporting to the Director of Grounds & Maintenance are the
following:
- Transportation Staff
- Various Technical Supervisors
Qualifications:
The Director of Grounds & Maintenance must hold at least a
bachelors degree, preferably
in engineering or business. He or she must
have significant experience in the management
of large and complex facility and be a skilful administrator.
The Director must be generally knowledgeable of the various functional
areas within the Division and be able to communicate with those
having technical expertise. He or she must be skilful in project
management and financial management. The Director should be multilingual,
including competence in Arabic, French and English.
