E. THE DIRECTOR OF THE CENTER OF ACADEMIC DEVELOPMENT AND STUDY SKILLS:
Position Title:
The Director of the Center of Academic Development and Study Skills
Functional Description:
The Director of the Center of Academic Development and Study Skills is responsible for the development and delivery of a board array of services designed to support the newly admitted students, as well as the advanced students, to ensure their academic success. He or she will be expected to exercise global leadership on the CADS activity, and ensure its effective management, in accordance with the University mission, regulations, and strategic plan.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- To plan and develop a program of study within the Center, and, in particular, to assist the University in the planning of the first year curriculum with a view to incorporation CADS courses in the program.
- To develop syllabi for individual courses at the Center, in consultation with the academic department and the faculty involved, and to identify and order the appropriate textbooks for the planned courses.
- To assume responsibility for the recruitment of faculty and personnel for the Center.
- To manage the budget of the Center
- To supervise procedures of registration, development, and record keeping for students enrolled in the CADS program
- To cooperate with the Dean of Student Affairs in student recruiting and admissions in the areas covered by the CADS
- To prepare periodic reports on the CADS program.
- To plan, develop and maintain the physical facilities of the Center.
- To be responsible for the effective operation of the Writing Center.
- To plan and implement improvements to the current academic advising procedures
- To assume responsibility for the effective operation of the student academic advising program
Reporting Line:
Reports to the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Span of Control:
Reporting to The Director of the Center of Academic Development and Study Skills are the following:
- Staff, as deemed appropriate
Qualifications:
The Director of the Center of Academic Development and Study skills should hold a masters or a doctoral degree and must have at least five years successful experience in teaching writing and study skills. The Director must be knowledgeable about contemporary methodology and technology for developing students academic skills
The Director must also have the ability to communicate effectively with students, staff and faculty and be an accomplished leader and administrator. He or she must be trilingual, with competence in Arabic, French and English..
