A. President:
Position Title:
President of the University
Functional Description:
The President of Al Akhawayn University in lfrane (AUI) is the Chief Executive Officer of the University. Pursuant to the policies and goals established by the Board of Trustees, the President directs all activities of the University.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Utilizing the Powers of his or her office, provides the leadership required to ensure that the goals and policies of the Board of Trustees are understood and implemented.
- Working with the administrators of the various teaching, research and service units of the University, establishes and recommends to the Board of Trustees the goals and objectives of the University.
- Directs the formulation of rules and regulations needed to ensure the successful operation of the University's teaching, research, service, and public relations activities.
- Works with the leaders of the various academic units to ensure that appropriate and effective curricula and instructional methods are devised and implemented.
- Working with the administrative and fiscal officers of the University, prepares and submits to the Board of Trustees a detailed annual operating budget for all University activities.
* With the advice of appropriate University officers, establishes all business policies and practices of the University.
- Serves as principal spokesperson of the University, addressing all of its appropriate publics and communicating its mission, goals, accomplishments and needs.
- Prepares and delivers to the Board of Trustees an annual report of the principal activities of the University.
- Presides over the principal public events of the University.
- Oversees the planning, construction and maintenance of University facilities.
- Serves as the University’s principal representative to governmental and private sector agencies and entities.
- Assumes full responsibility for the well-being of the University, including those matters not specifically enunciated above.

Reporting Line:
The President of the University reports to the Board of Trustees.
Span of Control:
Reporting to the President of the University are the following:
- Vice President for Academic Affairs
- Vice President for Finance and Administration
- Executive Director of Development and Communication
- Executive Director of The Executive Business Center
- Dean of Student Affairs
- Director of Environmental Issues and Regional Development
- Such other Vice Presidents as may be subsequently established
- Director of Information Technology and Systems
- Counsel
- Internal Auditor
- Executive Assistant to the President
Qualifications:
The President of the University should possess a record of distinguished accomplishment in higher education or one of the professions and should qualify for appointment to the highest academic rank. He or she must have the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, the Board of Trustees, alumni and other constituencies in the best interest of the University. The President must demonstrate an understanding and commitment to the mission of the university and skill at communicating with the public and all elements of the institution.
The President must have exceptional leadership and management skills and be a person of the highest integrity. Since the success of any university, but particularly a new and developing university, depends significantly upon effective planning, the President must be experienced in systematic planning.
The President must be trilingual, with competence in Arabic, French and English.
