EMPLOYEE BENEFITS GUIDE
6. Combined Graduate Study/Employment:
6.1 Preamble:
In the common interest of both the University and its staff, the University is offering its staff the opportunity to do graduate study at AUI.
6.2 Qualifying for the Program
To qualify for the program the staff member must have completed at least four years as an employee of the University. He/she must have been admitted to a graduate academic program following the normal admission procedure.
The staff member must obtain the approval of the Executive Officer responsible for the division in which the staff member is employed. This approval is subject to an excellent job performance and to his/her ability to continue such performance during the period of study. The final decision concerning the participation in this program will be taken by an Executive Committee appointed by the President.
6.3 Academic Rules
If the staff member is accepted, he will register for a maximum of two courses per semester. The staff member will not register for the Summer session. He/she is subject to the same academic regulations as other graduate students as outlined in the University catalog.
The University shall not fund the same course twice. Repeated courses will be funded by the staff member.
No official transcript shall be issued before clearance is received from the Vice President for Finance and Administration.
6.4 Financial Regulations
The staff member is charged tuition fees; these fees are calculated for future collection in accordance with the re-payment plan outlined below. All books and other academic material must be purchased from the University Bookstore by the staff member.
The staff member must sign a notarized commitment to work for the University for five years following the completion of all degree requirements or the date of dropping out of the graduate program.
In case the staff member resigns from the University or is dismissed for disciplinary reasons before the completion of this five year period, he/she must repay all the outstanding tuition fees. Each full month of work completed after completing the degree requirement or dropping out of the program entitles the staff member to a reduction of 1/60th of the total amount owed.
The permissions to register each semester and to collect the degree are granted by the Vice President for Finance and Administration once all other academic and financial requirements have been met.
