4. Tuition Waiver

4.1 Purpose

The University offers a tuition waiver plan for dependent children and spouses of eligible AUI personnel.

4.2 Conditions

  1. Candidates for a tuition waiver must be admitted to a degree program at AUI.
  2. Candidates for a tuition waiver are subject to the same admission conditions and procedures as fee-paying candidates.
  3. Eligible candidates for tuition waiver must complete and submit an “Application for Tuition Waiver” and a letter of admission to a degree program to the Office of the Vice President of Student Affairs.
  4. A tuition waiver attestation is delivered every semester by the Office of Financial Aid to each beneficiary specifying the extent of the waiver for the given semester and any courses not covered.

4.3 Eligibility

 To qualify for tuition waiver, the applicant must be:
a- The dependent child of an eligible faculty or staff member and under 25 years of age at the time of registration
b- The spouse of an eligible faculty or staff member.
A maximum of two concurrent recipients may be entitled to claim tuition waiver.

4.4 Employment Status

To be eligible, the applicant must be the child or spouse of either:
a- Full time staff or faculty member at AUI, or
b- A former AUI employee who completed at least ten years of continuous service at the University.

4.5 Starting Period of Waiver

The tuition waiver takes effect on the first semester or session following the date of hire of the sponsoring faculty or staff.

4.6 Extent of Waiver

  1. Recipients receive 100% tuition waiver for undergraduate program courses and 60% tuition waiver for graduate program courses.  This waiver covers tuition only; all other fees must be paid in full.
  2.  The tuition waiver plan will cover only courses required for graduation.
  3. The tuition waiver plan will not cover failed courses.
  4. The tuition waiver, subject of the present policy, may not be combined with any other form of scholarship or grant, whether granted by the University or by external bodies.  However, it may be combined with student on campus employment.

4.7 Duration and Termination Waiver

  1. Eligible child dependents and spouses may continue to benefit from tuition waiver as long as the sponsoring faculty or staff member retains full time status with the University.
  2. In the event of the sponsoring faculty or staff member leaving the University, the waiver continues for the remainder of the semester and is then terminated except as specified in 6.4.4. above.
  3. In the event of death of the sponsoring faculty or staff, the waiver plan continues until graduation subject to the same conditions.
