Degree Requirements

Foundation Courses

Students who lack the academic background in International Studies are required to take one or more of the following foundation courses. The decision as to which foundation courses are required will be taken by the Admission Committee and will be based on the student’s undergraduate transcripts and choice of concentration.

Foundation requirements for MAISD students:

SSK 1203 Computer Skills non-credit
SSC 5401 Statistics 4
SSC 5301 Comparative Cultural Systems 3
INS 5301 Theories and Models of International Relations 3
HIS 5301 Twentieth Century International History 3
ECO 5310 Introduction to International Economics 3

In addition, students may be required to take a foundation course in the area concentration of their choice:

HIS 5302 North Africa and the Middle East in the 20th Century 3
INS 5320 The European Union: An Introduction 3
PSC 5310 The American Political System 3

A maximum of five of the above courses (up to 16 SCH) may be required. Students who wish to test out of the foundation courses to which they have been assigned must submit a written request to the Dean stating their reasons. The request will be evaluated by the Admissions Committee.
