APA Reference List rules and examples
Periodicals (journals, newspapers, magazines)
The reference style for a periodical is more complex than for a book.
They require the following components:
Author, A. A., Author, B. B., & Author, C. C. (Year). Title of
article. Title of periodical, volume number,
pages.
A Journal Article, One Author
Kerr, B. (2001). Fundamental issues when preparing students to read
at a university level. CADS Journal of Applied
Academic Study Skills, 2, 189-200.
A Journal Article, Two Authors
Rathbun, G., & Mittan, R. (2002). Talking with your teacher: How
to survive the experience. CADS Journal of Applied
Academic Study Skills, 3, 200-224.
A Journal Article, Three to Six Authors
Henderson, K., Rathbun, G., & Mittan, R. (2002). Communicating:

A Journal Article, More than Six Authors

A magazine or newspaper article
The reference style for a magazine or newspaper article requires the
following additional components:
Author, A. A. (Year, add month and day of publication for daily, weekly,
or monthly publications). Title of article. Title
of periodical, volume number, pages.
A magazine article, one author

A newspaper article, one author
Kerr, B. (2002, May). Making the grade at Al Akhawayn. The
AUI News, no 2, 7.
A newspaper article, no author
If there is no author, place the title in the author position.
