APA Reference List rules and examples
Books
The reference style for a book is the simplest. It requires the following
components:
Author, A. A. (Year of publication). Title of
work: Capital letter also for subtitle. Place published: Publisher.
One Author
Owens, C. E. (2001). Study skills at Al Akhawayn
University in Ifrane:Problems and solutions. Rabat: Moroccan
Press Co.
Two Authors
Owens, C. E., & Kerr, B. (2001). Notetaking
and academic success at Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane. Rabat:
Moroccan Press Co.
Three to Six authors
Wyrtzen, J., Owens, C. E., Rathbun, G., & Kerr, B. (2002). Time
management successes and failures: The Al Akhawayn experience.
Ifrane: Al Akhawayn University Press.
More than Six Authors
Burgess, R., Owens, C. E., Kerr, B., Rathbun, G. Wyrtzen, J., Mittan,
B. et al. (2002). The teaching of academic study
skills. Ifrane: Al Akhawayn University Press.
Part of a book (edited)
The reference style for a book that has authors for different sections
and is edited is slightly more complex. It requires the following components:
Author, A. A., & Author, B. B. (Year of publication). Title of
chapter. In A. Editor & B. Editor (Eds.), Title
of book (pages of chapter). Location:Publisher.
Henderson, K., & Burgess, R. (2000). Conflict and resolution: Students
at war. In P. Hardcastle (Ed.), Conflict in a university
setting (pp. 10-37). Ifrane:Al Akhawayn University Press.
No Author
If there is no author, place the title in the author position. Merriam-Webster's collegiate dictionary (10th ed.). (1993). Springfield,
MA:Merriam-Webster.
