Time Management
Managing time is one of the most difficult adjustments for students,
especially for first year students. Most of our incoming students are
away from their families for the first time. For the most part they
have not been responsible for their own schedule in quite the same way
as is expected at Al Akhawayn University. Along with study they are
very busy adjusting to new freedoms and may not be ready for independent
work. Time management, therefore, becomes an important aspect of their
education.
Students in some CAD courses are requested to prepare schedules for
completion of courses and assignments.
Here is a form used for weekly schedules. It may also help a student
to plan free time in their weekly schedules.
Here is a chart used to document the progress of a project (this form
may not be suitable for your individual course, but your students could
produce one that is, based on the requirements of your assignments).
A time management principle that is reiterated in CAD courses is the
recognition of the passage of time, how work and deadlines do seem to
pile up at certain critical points in the semester, and how students
need to look ahead to what is coming.
Making students responsible for their commitments is a challenge in
CAD courses, and trying to help them manage the work load can be achieved
by engaging their input into the timing of long-term and short-term
objectives throughout the course.
