Library Research Skills
Beginning with SSK 1201, students become familiar with the use of
the Mohamed VI Library and its print resources. You can expect your
students to know how to use each of the following:
- The Library of Congress Classification System
- The floor plan of the Library
- Both the online and card catalogues
- Location and circulation of books, magazines, multimedia, and articles
from journals
- Reservations of material
- The reserved materials desk
- The reference section
In subsequent CAD courses, students learn about
- The e-Resources of the Library
- Subject Indexes
- Appropriate search skills for academic articles
- Writing a Literature Review
- Writing an Annotated Bibliography
The Library offers learning support workshops in the use of its e-Resources.
All CAD students will have attended at least one of these, in the early
stages of their pilot research project for SSK 1202. Search skills are
a recognizably difficult step to master, and CAD courses can only begin
the process with your students. As you require more and more sophisticated
sources in your assignments, you will see the development of this skill.
Without your continued reinforcement, however, their search skills will
remain at a beginner's level.
