Interpersonal Skills and Social Interaction
Excellent communication, personal, and social interactive skills enhance
the acquisition and growth of knowledge. SSK 1205 introduces students
to both theoretical and practical communication skills. The following
broad areas are covered:
- Concepts & Principles of Communication
- Empathy
- Effective Listening
- Interpersonal Conflict Management
- Conflict Resolution Strategies
- The Self in Communication
With the discussion and practice of these concepts, students learn
the basics of oral communication and begin to recognise how they relate
to their social and academic well-being. Critical thinking is shown
to be highly integrated with certain of the processes of social interaction:
for example, how understanding is enhanced by empathy, and how conflict
management uses logical reasoning to deal with emotional issues.
SSK 1205 is designed to help students communicate effectively both
personally and within a classroom/work setting.
