Critical Thinking
Critical thinking processes are introduced in SSK 1201 and SSK 1203
and demanded throughout the CAD curriculum. Particular emphasis is directed
to
- basic argumentation structure
- the use of factual evidence in support of a claim
- recognition of other perspectives
- detection of bias in written or oral text
- distinguishing the known from the unknown
- logical reasoning
- consequence and implication
- literal versus implied meanings
- ethical approaches to knowledge and learning
Students who have succeeded in CAD courses will have enhanced their
understanding and use of thinking skills, such that their ability to
grapple with higher-order, abstract ideas can be built upon in further
courses.
It is reiterated throughout the CAD curriculum that analysis is the
key to developing thinking. Courses taken beyond the CAD experience
can demand further and more refined analytical thinking of the students
