The basic computer skills taught and reinforced in CAD classes are:
1. Getting to know your LAN and your computer, which comprises
- The login - logoff procedure
- Access to and working with the student partition
- File management
- Basic computer components
- Familiarity with the keyboard
2. Using email to participate in academic coursework and discussions
- Basic use of iNotes
- Distribution lists
- Sending and receiving attachments
- Netiquette
3. Writing with a Word Processor
- Using MSWord to format an academic paper according to APA guidelines
- Defining headings and styles
4. Presenting Research Data with PowerPoint and Excel
- Designing and formatting a simple table with three variables on
two dimensions
- Using the table to make charts and graphs
- Exporting charts and graphs to PowerPoint
- Exporting charts and graphs to MSWord
5. Researching Sources on the WWW
- Conducting effective searches on the web
- Using Advanced Search elements in Google© to refine search
- Evaluating the sources for credibility and utility
- Becoming familiar with web page design, hierarchies of information
and search engine processes
