Arrival procedures
Q: What airport(s) do new arrivals normally fly into?
A: Fes is best if you can. Rabat is second best. Otherwise, use Casablanca. An AUI van will pick you up if you confirm the date and time of your arrival with your administrative assistant
Q: How does the entry process work in the country? That is, what do we have to do for visas?
A: Americans, Canadians, EU nationals and certain others enter Morocco without a visa, as tourists. Other nationalities may need an entry visa. Check with the Moroccan Embassy in your country, or email Rachid Mrabti to find about your situation (r.mrabti@aui.ma ) After your arrival, AUI helps you through the process to get your visa status changed to resident.
Q: What if I have dual nationality? Which passport should I use to enter Morocco?
A: Use the one that allows you in without having to get a visa. (So if you have Indian and Canadian, use Canadian).
Q: How long are visas granted for?
A: Your residence card will be issued for one year, initially, and is then renewed annually. Americans may apply for longer terms of residence.
Q: What about leaving Morocco for short trips and returning?
A: All nationalities do not need a "visa de retour". Your residency card or the receipt should suffice.
Q: Once in the country, what is the settling in process i.e. where do we go from the airport?
A: Straight to your furnished flat. The van will meet you and drop you off at home . An orientation program is scheduled for new faculty and is communicated via e-mail. It normally starts during the week of faculty general convocation.
