Scholarships

Undergraduates:

Undergraduate beneficiaries are eligible for AUI scholarship for a maximum of nine (9) semesters.  Continuation of the scholarship depends on the student demonstrating excellence and successful progress towards the student’s studies, as evidenced by maintaining a Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) of at least 3.00/4.00. If the SGPA falls between 2.50 and 2.99 the student will be placed on scholarship probation. Failure to return to the required standing, deduction or suspension of the scholarship will apply as described in the table below:

SGPA  ≥ 3.0

Good standing,
maintain scholarship for the following semester

First semester SGPA between 2.5 and 2.99

First probation
with conditional scholarship for the following semester

Second semester SGPA between 2.5 and 2.99

2nd probation (either consecutive or cumulative):
50% scholarship deduction for the following semester

Third semester SGPA between 2.5 and 2.99

Third probation (either consecutive or cumulative): Scholarship suspension for the following semester

First semester SGPA ≤ 2.49

First unsatisfactory standing:
50% scholarship deduction for the following semester

Second semester SGPA ≤ 2.99

2nd unsatisfactory standing (either consecutive or cumulative): scholarship suspension for the following semester

Undergraduate students benefiting from a total scholarship are required to perform 05 hours of unpaid student employment per week.

Decisions regarding deduction or suspension based on the spring academic results are applied to the following summer and fall. However, summer session results will not be taken into account either for probation, suspension or reinstatement.

Students with a SGPA between 2.90 and 2.99 may appeal the scholarship committee decision. If the appeal is rejected, the probationary status will apply.  If the appeal is accepted, the student is required to return to normal standing (SGPA of 3.0 or above for undergraduates) for the following semester; otherwise, s/he will be placed on scholarship probation without the possibility to appeal the decision.

Appeal to be removed for scholarship probation is applied to scholarship holders who are placed on first time scholarship probation. Appeal can be made only once.

To consider the appeal, school recommendation, parents financial situation, and student’s involvement in social work or other university activities will be taken into consideration.

A separate scholarship system is also applicable to students enrolled in Language Center courses with or without CAD courses in their first or second semester at AUI.  Students are allowed to benefit from their AUI scholarship package for one semester only while at the Language Center. They must pay for every language center course they are left with for the following semester. The cost of one language center course corresponds to that of 3 credits. Moreover, students who receive the grade of “F” in one or more language center courses, whether in level one or two, will lose their scholarship for the following semester.

N.B: Students are allowed to use their scholarship during summer sessions as long as they are in good academic standing without exceeding the total budget committed for the 9 semesters. Moreover, their summer session GPA will not be taken into account either for probation, suspension or reinstatement.
