1- For periodicals and newspapers, the current 2 years
(this year plus 1) are non-circulating. They are for library
use only. Older issues and volumes may be borrowed for 1
week, and may be renewed if not on Hold.
2- Checkout limit is the total number of items that a
patron may have checked out. The limit for Books is the
overall total number permitted. There are lesser limits for
the other item types, but are included in total.
3- The final due date for all items checked out to or
renewed by students will be the last day of final exams each
semester or term. This limit is waived for students working
on thesis or capstone projects, with a letter of
authorization from the student’s teacher or faculty advisor.

Patrons may renew Books and Periodicals 2 times, unless a
Hold has been placed on the item by another patron. The
renewal period is the same as the checkout period. AUI
faculty may renew AVs 1 time for instructional or teaching
purposes, not for personal use.
An item may be renewed only 2 days before the date due.
After the second renewal, the item must be returned to the
library. It may be borrowed again after 1 week.
Patrons may also renew items by phoning extension 2170,
by emailing circulation@aui.ma, or by visiting the
Circulation Desk.
Renewal will be blocked, if borrowing privileges have
been suspended for any overdue items or unpaid fines.

A patron may place a Hold on any item that is check out.
That item will be Recalled from the current borrower, and
held for the requester at the Circulation Desk for three (3)
days. The requester is informed by email when the item is
available.
Patrons may place Holds by visiting the Circulation Desk.
Holds may not be placed by phone or email.
After an item has been checked out for 10 days, it may be
recalled if requested by another patron. A Recall notice
will be emailed to the borrower informing him/her that the
item must be returned to Circulation within three (3) days.
The date due will be changed to three (3) days from the
Recall notice. Recalled items not returned by the new due
date will accrue overdue fines.
Overdue Fines:
All patrons incur overdue fines for each item returned
late. Borrowing privileges are suspended for overdue items
and unpaid fines.

A reminder will be emailed to the borrower on the date an
item is due. Overdue notices will be emailed to the borrower
at 1 week intervals.
No reminders or notices are sent for overdue Reserves;
however, overdue fines will accrue and suspend borrowing
privileges.
For lost items, the borrower will be charged any overdue
fine accrued, the cost of replacing the lost item, plus a
200 DH processing fee. Borrowing privileges are suspended
until the Lost Item bill is paid.
If the item is subsequently found and returned before a
replacement is ordered, the replacement cost may be
refunded, but not the overdue fine or the processing fee.
Borrowers are responsible for returning library items in
the same condition in which they were borrowed. If an item
is damaged, the library reserves the right to charge the
borrower the cost of repair or replacement.
Borrowers are responsible for reading and honoring
library email notices in a timely fashion. Failure to do so
does not override any library policies or procedures.
Borrowing privileges will be suspended for overdue items
or unpaid fines and charges. Privileges may also be
suspended if other library policies are not honored.
Capstone students can borrow up to 12 items provided they
submit a written request approved by their supervising
faculty. This request can be emailed directly to
circulation@aui.ma.
The Reserves Desk is located through the door to
the right of the Circulation Desk. Required reading
materials are placed in Reserves by course
instructors for short term borrowing and limited
access by their students. The checkout period for
Books placed on Reserves is set by the instructor
from the list below.

*Overnight items may be checked out overnight within
the last hour before the Reserves Desk closes. These
items will be due one (1) hour after the library
opens the next day. The hourly overdue fine accrues
from that time onward.
Class notes, journal articles, book chapters,
handouts, etc. placed on Reserves will be added to
Electronic Reserves.
No date due reminders or overdue notices will be
sent for Reserves. Borrowing privileges for Reserves
may be suspended for the remainder of the semester,
if items are repeatedly returned damaged or overdue.

library or in the classroom.
- 1-hour orientation or tour of the
library facility, including
instruction on the use of the OPAC
and public workstations.

specific classes designed for
specific assignments.
The Library will provide faculty
and graduate students a copy of a
book, journal article or other
document that is not available in
its collection. Because of the high
