Research Activity

The Mobile and Wireless Communications, and Systems Laboratory (MWCSL) does research and Development in many areas, including: Qos Provisioning in 3G Wireless Networks, Multimedia transmission over wired and wireless links, Voice over IP, IMS platforms, Smart card systems, hardware encryption systems, Computer Telephony Integration, and Home automation.
Our philosophy is to leverage research result into prototypes, which we augment with our own proprietary improvements yielding Intellectual Property and Patents. Much of our work in the last few years has revolved around VoIP, a skype-like software systems for one of our major Industry partners.
We develop and evaluate our ideas in the context of real industry-strength systems, built for scalability and reliability.

• An International Patent jointly with Lucent Technologies: Improved Quality Of Service Control In A Mobile Telecommunications Network, European Application No. 00303888.2, filed May 9, 2000, by Stefan Gruhl, Omar Lataoui, Tajje-edine Rachidi, Louis Gwyn Samuel and Ran-Hong Yan. filed also in Canada, USA, and India.
• Numerous prototypes and demonstrators (VoIP, Smartcard based campus card, Home automation, embedded software) Some of which have been presented at International meetings
• Attracted 2.5MDH of R&D contracts for National and International companies
• Won the first price of “R&D Maroc” in 2002 for works on smartcards
