Research

Al Akhawayn’s School of Science & Engineering (SSE) seeks to promote research, scholarship, and creative endeavors. Its focus lies on (a) addressing the needs of Morocco and its region through R&D and (b) promoting entrepreneurship activities for taking research results to market.

This is an exciting time for research at SSE. Our faculty are attracting significant research funding, and President Benmokhtar’s initiative for a Middle Atlas Valley Research & Innovation Triangle (MAVRIT) will certainly allow our research to reach new frontiers.

SSE faculty’s research expertise and publications are in the areas of: wireless communication, language technologies, geographic information systems, e-government, e-transport, e-tourism, data mining, power electronics, embedded systems, reconfigurable system on chip design, nano-photonics, and environmental technologies. International R&D partners have included Microsoft, Lucent Technologies, Maroc Telecom, CADTECH, NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology), LAAS (Laboratoire d’Analyse et d’Architecture des Systèmes), IDRC (International Development Research Center), Osaka University, Carnegie Mellon University, Technical University of Munich, Technical University of Delft, Laval University, University of Murcia and Hannam University.

MAVRIT aims is designed as a platform, with partner universities in the region, that offers a critical mass of researchers and world class research labs in the areas of biotechnology, nanotechnology, information technology and environmental technology. MAVRIT is oriented towards producing intellectual property and ensuring technology transfer to industry.
