Karim Moustaghfir, Associate Professor of Human Resources at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, co-authored an article entitled "An Activation Process for Entrepreneurial Engineering Education: The Model and Application" with partners from the University of Salento. Connell Monette, Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs and Assistant Professor at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, is among 2500 participants attending the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations fourth annual forum, December 11-13, 2011 in Doha, Qatar, under the theme “Intercultural Dialogue to Boost Development” (http://www.unaoc.org/). Dr. Monette is representing the university and promoting the new Al Akhawayn University Master of Arts degree in Islamic Studies.
Recent Activities by Al Akhawayn Institute for Economic Analysis and Prospective Studies (IEAPS):
1. Ahmed Driouchi, Dean of the IEAPS, represented Al Akhawayn University during a seminar on "Economics of Knowledge as a Driver for the Development" organized by Hassan II Academy of Science and Technology during its Science Week for the Youth in Dar Essalam High School in Rabat, on November 29, 2011.
2. Ahmed Driouchi, Dean of the IEAPS, presented papers on "Business Intelligence, Innovations and New Enterprises" and on "Economics of Innovation & Sustainable Development", during two conferences organized by Cadi Ayad University in Marrakesh on the occasion of the Forum of Doctoral Studies, on December 7-8, 2011.
3. IEAPS researchers presented a paper entitled "Economics of Green Jobs and New Employment Prospects for Morocco" within a panel of EU, EIB and FEMISE experts during the Fez Meeting on Youth and New Prospects in the Region, December 11, 2011. The presentation was based on the outcomes of a study developed by the IEAPS.
4. Ahmed Driouchi, Dean of the IEAPS,presented a paper on "The New Economics of Skilled Labor Migration with Emphasis on Medical Doctors in MENA, East Central Europe and EU" during the Annual Meeting of FEMISE in Marseilles, France, on December 14-16, 2011. The paper was based on the outcomes of a research conducted by the IEAPS in 2010.
Al Akhawayn alumnus Houssam Haitof (‘05) successfully defended his PhD thesis entitled A Framework for Autonomic Service-Based Resource Management Using a Semantic Approach, under the supervision of Professor Michael Gerndt at the the Technical University of Munich (TUM). Before going to TUM, Houssam earned a combined Bachelor and Master in General Engineering and Computer Networks from Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane.
Ahmed Legrouri, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the School of Science and Engineering, and Abdelkrim Ouardaoui, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, have published in the Canadian periodical Spectre,Vol. 41, N° 1, Oct-Nov 2011, pp. 31-34, a new peer-reviewed article entitled "De l’éléctricité “animale” à l’électricité “métallique” et le début de l’électrochimie: continuité ou rupture?" in the periodical's special issue on the importance of history in science education .
