Said Ennahid and Eric Ross

Said Ennahid and Eric Ross, both Associate Professors in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, have each recently published book chapters in the book The Trans-Saharan Book Trade: Manuscript Culture, Arabic Literacy and Intellectual History in Muslim Africa,edited by Graziano Krätli and Ghislaine Lydon, Library of The Written Word, Vol. 8, The Manuscript World, Brill, Leiden-Boston., 2011. Dr. Ennahid's chapter is entitled "Information and Communication Technologies for the Preservation and Valorization of Manuscript Collections in Morocco,” and Dr. Ross' chapter is entitled "A Historical Geography of the Trans-Saharan Trade."

The Al Akhawayn University School of Science and Engineering research project on Water Demand Management in the Saiss Basin has been published in the Climate Change Adaptation in Canadian International Development Research Centre's Africa Program 2009-10 Annual Report. It includes a profile of Dean Ahmed Legrouri and an account of his work serving communities in the area through applied research with social, economic or technological impacts. Ali Azeriah

Ali Azeriah, Visiting Professor in the Al Akhawayn University School of Humanities and Social Sciences, has published three Arabic translations in Banipal, the London-based magazine of modern Arab literature. The translations include short stories from Yemen (Banipal 36, "Literature in Yemen Today"), Iraq (Banipal 37, "Iraqi Literature"), and Tunisia (Banipal 39, "Tunisian Literature"). The Al Akhawayn University men’s soccer team

The Al Akhawayn University men’s soccer team has won first place (the gold medal) at the Euro-Valencia international university sports tournament held in Valencia, Spain, November 11-15, 2010. The 14-man Al Akhawayn team competed against university teams from Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Switzerland, Germany, and Russia, triumphing against Italy, France, and Spain on the road to the final match, in which Al Akhawayn beat Cus Milano (Biccoca) 3-0

Moncef Lahlou

Al Akhawayn University Language Center Director Moncef Lahlou served on a panel on "Quality Assurance and Institutional Reporting" at the second annual conference of the Middle East and North Africa Association of International Research held at the American University of Beirut, in Lebanon, during the first week of November 2010. The theme of the conference was "Driving Change in Higher Education in the MENA Region." The association promotes best practices in higher education, assessment, institutional research, professional development, quality assurance, and increased collaboration and experience-sharing
