Al Akhawayn Water Management Research team has published a chapter entitled “Violence, the Bitit Canal and the Nile Basin: An Asymmetric Comparison” in the book Integrated Water Resources Management in the Mediterranean Region: Dialogue towards new strategy:  (Choukr-Allah, Redouane; Ragab, Ragab; Rodriguez-Clemente, Rafael, eds. (2012, 2012, IX, p391)). Authors of the chapter are Al Akhawayn professors Jack Kalpakian, Ahmed Legrouri, Fouad Berrada, Abdelkrim Ouardaoui, and Driss Kettani, and the research team assistants Fatima Ejekki and Khalid Doudou.

Violetta Cavalli-Sforza

Violetta Cavalli-Sforza, Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Al Akhawayn University has been selected to attend the fifth annual Google EMEA Faculty Summit on September 19-21, 2012 at Google’s London office in Central St. Giles. The summit will gather 100 Computer Science academics from across the region to discuss technical issues of mutual interest, and explore interesting possibilities for collaboration with Google.

Abderrahman Hassi-Giovanna Storti

Al Akhawayn professors Abderrahman Hassi, Lecturer of Management, and Giovanna Storti, Lecturer at the Language Center won the Outstanding Paper Award at the 2012 Emerald Literati Network Awards for Excellence. Their winning article entitled “Organizational training across cultures: variations in practices and attitudes” was published in the Journal of European Industrial Training (2011) Vol. 35, Issue 1. The article adopts a comparative cross-cultural management perspective to address the occurrence of differences in training-related practices and attitudes across national cultures. The jurors for the award called the article “one of the most impressive pieces of work the Journal’s Editorial Team has seen throughout 2011”. The award will be given at an international conference event with Emerald representation later this year.

Mariam El Mezouar

Al Akhawayn Engineering student Mariam El Mezouar (’13) was selected to be a Google Scholar and was awarded a € 7,000 scholarship. El Mezouar will attend Google Scholars' Retreat on June 17-20, 2012 in Zurich, in Switzerland which will host around 100 participants including scholars from the Europe Scholarship for Students with Disabilities, scholars and finalists from the EMEA Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship, and Zawadi Scholars.
