Al Akhawayn professors Abderrahman Hassi, Lecturer of Management, and Giovanna Storti, Lecturer at the Language Center, presented two research papers at the 4th Annual International Conference on Education and New Learning Technologies held on July 2-4, 2012, in Barcelona, Spain. Hassi’s paper is entitled Workplace Training in Morocco: Pleading the Case for a Training Investment Act. The second paper, co-authored with Storti, is entitled Vocational Education in Morocco: Between Internal and External Performance Indicators. To read the abstracts of the two papers, click here.

Karim Moustaghfir, Associate Professor of Human Resource Development at Al Akhawayn University, participated in the MakeLearn Conference held in Celje, Slovenia, on June 20-22, 2012. Member of the conference program board, Moustaghfir served as panelist in the Academic Leadership Forum, and chaired a session on human resources.

Al Akhawayn alumna Haifae Rouas (’11), holder of an Executive Master of Business Administration from Al Akhawayn, participated in the Women in Public Service Summer Institute at Wellesley College in Massachusetts, USA, on June 11-22, 2012. Rouas was one the 50 emerging women leaders from across the globe serving in different fields selected to take part in this program. The Institute offered the opportunity to participants to benefit from a forum on shared learning and dialogue, the exchange of experiences and expertise, peer-to-peer mentoring and networking, and cross-fertilization of knowledge and innovative leadership skills.
Fouad Chaatit, Associate Professor of Mathematics at Al Akhawayn's School of Science and Engineering, was appointed Assistant Vice President for Strategic Plan Follow Up additionally to his position as a faculty member.
The University created the position of Vice President for Strategic Plan Follow Up in order to support its strategic mission and oversee the implementation of its strategic objectives.
Chaatit holds a Doctorate in Pure Mathematics from Paris VII University, France (1985), and a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Texas at Austin, USA (1993). Before joining Al Akhawayn University in 1995, he held visiting positions at both the University of Texas at El Paso and the University of Missouri-Columbia. He also served as faculty at Mohammed V University in Rabat since 1986 and is still affiliated with the University. Chaatit is the author of several research articles, a Fulbright Scholar, and an Invited Speaker at several American Mathematical Society conferences and at the NATO Advanced Studies Institute. At Al Akhawayn, Chaatit has been Academic Coordinator for Science and Engineering from 2007 to 2011. He has contributed to the ABET accreditation of the Computer Science program, and has been coordinator of the Strategic Plan Follow Up Committee since March 2011.

Ali Azeriah, Visiting Professor of English Composition at Al Akhawayn’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences, published his translation into English of the short stories entitled Essaouira, by Hanane Darkaoui, and I Want to Love this Evening, by Latifa Labsir. The translated stories are published in the London-based Banipal Magazine of Modern Arab Literature, issue 44 (2012). This issue celebrates twelve Arab women writers, among which Moroccan writers Darkaoui and Labsir. For more information on the short stories, click here.
