BE A CAMP COUNSELOR

Camp counselors are Moroccan and North American high-school students who will be coordinators of camp activities. In 2012, ten counselors will be selected on the basis of a competitive application process. Applications are due May 30, 2012.

Camp counselors will be expected to help generate and monitor camp activities intended to reinforce English-language ability among the campers, create international connections between Moroccan and American youth, introduce the young campers to community service, promote civic engagement, and have fun!

Camp counselors will:

• Learn Arabic and experience Moroccan culture (earn 2 college credits for International students)

• Experience Morocco and share experiences with new friends

• Gain international leadership experience in a unique environment

• Explore the commonalities between people from different backgrounds

In addition, in 2012 the 10 US camp counselors will be required to take a daily course (worth 2 college credit hours) in Conversational Arabic and Moroccan Culture and will participate in advanced activities especially designed to reinforce their leadership skills and international perspective. The course will be taught each morning of during the two-week camp period by an Al Akhawayn University faculty member, and the international leadership activities will take place in the evenings and on weekends.
