Athletes code of conductDefinition of Student-Athlete: A student becomes a student-athlete when his/her enrollment is solicited by a member of the athletics staff or other representatives of athletics interest with a view toward the student’s ultimate participation in the intercollegiate athletic program. Walk-on students become student-athletes when the student reports for an intercollegiate squad and their name is entered on the athletic file. Code of Conduct: To be a member of AUI official team is a privilege which must be earned by each student’s academic and athletic promise and continuing performance. Student athletes who participate in intercollegiate athletics become a member of a team. By accepting this privilege of team membership, the student athlete accepts the following responsibilities in the areas of academic performance, athletic participation, and student conduct. Prohibited Conduct: Student-Athlete Expectations Student-athletes are one of the most visible groups in the university community due to their public exposure via the competitive arena. Consequently, what you do and the way in which you do it requires exemplary behavior, particularly in the sports complex and in away games. You have responsibilities as a representative of the Athletic Department in particular and AUI in general require that you. Notify your instructor in advance when competition or travel requires you to miss class. Discuss with your instructor in advance the procedure you are to follow if competition necessitates missing an examination or assignment deadline. Remember that if you do things in groups with other student-athletes, your behavior invites the judgment of athletics as a group. Your behavior should reflect positively on the Athletic Department and your sport in particular. Your behavior has a definite impact on the reputation of the Athletic Department and the attitudes the campus community has toward your fellow student-athletes. Your conduct will be closely scrutinized as you compete on campus, as you travel, and as you compete off-campus. You will be looked upon as a role model, particularly by other national universities, and it is important that your personal conduct be above reproach at all times. It is expected that when you are a representative of AUI University as a student-athlete, either at the University or on road trips, you will: * Abide by the university rules/training rules. * Behave appropriately and remember that you are a representative of AUI; * Be courteous to, cooperative with and patient with fans, officials community members and opponents * Refrain from use of inappropriate language, signs, symbols, or unsportsmanlike conduct; * Refrain from loud or discourteous behavior when traveling, staying in hotels, visiting other campuses, or similar conditions. Disciplinary Process Student-athletes are expected to comply with all regulations stated in the Code of Conduct which is contained in AUI Student Handbook. Any deviations from AUI Code of Conduct Policy or other actions which could be deemed as inappropriate behavior or which reflects in a negative manner on the University will be considered a violation of the Student-Athlete Code of Conduct Policy. Such behavior can result in a student-athlete being disciplined. Disciplinary actions will be made by the Director of Athletics, The discipline may range from a warning, to dismissal from the team, but if the action is an aggravate action the Student-athletes will be referred to the Vice President of Student affairs for a disciplinary hearing. Sanctions imposed by the University range from a warning to expulsion from the University, depending upon the severity of the charge. Once this process is completed, the student-athlete will be referred back to the Athletic Department for possible additional disciplinary action. Institutional Representation The student athletes, coaches, and fans bear the responsibility of representing the mission and objectives of Al Akhawayn University and through athletic competition. As such, it is vital that we all recognize the role we play as ambassadors for the institution and conduct ourselves accordingly. Although we will compete hard, we will compete fairly and respectfully with our opponents. Coaches, athletes, students, and spectators must recognize that their conduct plays an important role in establishing the reputation of our University and our positive actions can contribute directly to the success of our teams. During home contests we serve as hosts to the visiting team, its students, and spectators. They are our guests, and they should be treated accordingly. As visitors, we are expected to act as invited guests. We will treat our guest with respect Qualified officials are assigned to all contests. They are the proper authorities to make decisions regarding the rules and their interpretations. These decisions should be accepted. Officials should be treated with respect at all times on and off the court or playing field. Sportsmanship includes being appreciative of all good plays by both our team and opponent. Cheer for our team, not against the opponent! Eligibility To join AUI official teams a certain level of skills is required. At the beginning of each semester pre-selection games are organized to select new official team members. Being part of AUI official teams requires the following duties and procedures. After being selected students athletes must sign the following contracts. Assumed Risk Providing a safe environment for practice and competition is a priority of everyone involved in the athletic program. Every step is taken to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants. However, student/athletes must be aware that certain risks of injury are inherent in athletic participation. Accidents ranging from minor to severe may occur. It is mandatory that a consent form be signed by the athlete before they are allowed to participate in AUI athletics. By signing this form, students acknowledge the risks associated with playing sports. Transportation AUI provides transportation to all away athletic contests. All team members must travel on transportation provided by AUI. Athletes are not permitted to drive their own vehicles to away contests. Athlete can use their cars only if the university vans are not available and only if a written permission has been received from the athletic office. The athletic Director will review with you the standards for team conduct that you should observe when you travel with your team. Specific requirements for dress, individual conduct, curfews and free time Academic Requirements The athletic department requires that a student must be in a good academic standing to be part of AUI Official teams. Students in academic probation are not allowed join AUI varsity teams. Excused Absence Students absent from classes because of participating in away games are given excused absences. Besides, The Associate director will send an e-mail to all faculties informing them of the student’s absences. Still students need to get the excused absences form 48 hours prior to their absences take a copy to the enrollment services and another copy to their professor and at the same time ask for permission. |
