Azrou Center and Hand in Hand Donate Clothes to Azrou Families

Ifrane, April 18, 2012 – The student-run Hand in Hand association in cooperation with Al Akhawayn Azrou Center for Community Development and the Al Akhawayn Middle Atlas Development Association organized yesterday a clothing donation campaign at the Azrou Center (Azrou).

In its third installment, the campaign benefited over 100 men, women, and children from the Azrou region.

“I cannot possibly express how elated I am,” said Fatima as a tear ran down her cheek. “I am sure my kids will be very happy to wear their new garments.”

The clothes started their journey in New York, where they were donated by some members of the Moroccan community in the U.S. and Canada from  to the population of the Middle Atlas area. The clothes were then shipped to Casablanca before being transported to Azrou and handed out during an official ceremony.

“We are here to support Al Akhawayn’s mission and help local communities with whatever we can,” said Malika Benbella, Director of the Azrou Center for Community Development. “This area needs a lot of support and we are happy to see how much Al Akhawayn students are committed to the cause.”

“The clothing donation campaign is an initiative that also allows the Azrou Center to further support its mission of offering quality social and educational services such as literacy programs, medical consultations, awareness campaigns, medical campaigns, professional crafts workshops, and more,” said Benbella.

The clothing donation campaign knew the full participation of student volunteers from the Hand in Hand association, as well as members of and volunteers from the Azrou Center for Community Development.

“Giving feels good, and we get a lot of personal satisfaction from helping people and seeing how happy they are,” said Hand in Hand members.

The clothes donations will continue over the coming years helping the people of the Azrou region.

Among the supporters of the campaign present at the Azrou Center were Mohamed M’jid, Founder and President of the Mjid Foundation; Jelloul Samsam, Governor of Ifrane; Al Akhawayn President Driss Ouaouicha; Cherif Belfekih, Vice President for Student Affairs; and local authorities.
