A New Vice President for Academic Affairs appointed at AUI
Dr. Christopher S. Taylor, a former Dean at prestigious Yale University, has been appointed Vice-President for Academic Affairs at Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane (AUI) starting August 1, 2021.
Dr. Taylor earned his B.A. with a focus on African History from Johns Hopkins University, and he earned his M.A. and Ph.D. in Near Eastern Studies from Princeton University. He has previously served as the Dean of Grace Hopper College at Yale University, as the Acting Executive Director of the Center for Arabic Study Abroad (CASA) at the American University in Cairo (AUC), as a professor of Islamic history and Middle East Studies at Drew University in Madison, New Jersey, for 28 years, as the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, and as the Dean of the Caspersen School of Graduate Studies at Drew University, and then as Vice-President for Academic Affairs at Habib University.
At Al Akhawayn University, Dr. Taylor will be in charge of leading the academic affairs of the University, promoting the academic excellence associated with the accreditation of Al Akhawayn by the prestigious NECHE, and achieving the academic ambitions of the 2020-2025 strategic plan integrated with the transformational experience integrated with student life on campus, guided by the values of inspiration, transformation and impact, and centered around academic success and professional work for Al Akhawayn students and alumni.
Dr. Taylor succeeds Dr. Nizar MESSARI, professor for more than 10 years at Al Akhawayn, who has just finished his term as Vice President for Academic Affairs, and who is starting his sabbatical year at Yale University this month.
