On June 7, 2021, Al Akhawayn University invited Rotary District Governor Mr. Said Nejjar, board members, and 6 representatives from Rotary International Fes to discuss the creation of an AUI Peace and Diplomacy Center and of an Interact Club at Al Akhawayn School in Ifrane (ASI). Additionally, the members of Rotary International Fes shared the work they accomplished during this complicated and unprecedented year. As District Governor, Mr. Nejjar oversees the Rotary Network in the entire Maghreb region, and his position is one of the most prestigious in the regional network.
The Rotaract Club at Al Akhawayn University, founded in 2001, is one of the oldest active associations among universities in Morocco. Since 2011, it has had the largest number of student members among these associations; since 2020, it has been active despite of and in response to ongoing challenges of Covid-19. In the 2020-2021 academic year, AUI’s Rotaract Club has held two blood drives with a total of 360 donors, collaborated in a food and school supply donation, organized an HIV awareness campaign (Sidaction) for World AIDS Day, helped renovate the Ait Lahcen ou Brahim School, and hosted the Japanese ambassador at AUI in collaboration with the Japanese Circle Club, among other activities. As one of AUI’s largest student volunteer clubs, this is only a glimpse of AUI Rotaract Club’s activities to come.
