AUI mourns the loss of Professor Abderrahmane El Moudden.
Professor Abderrahmane El Moudden, one of the top Moroccan historians, died this week (August 2nd) at the age of 72 in Doha, Qatar, where he was teaching as a visiting professor at Doha Institute. He inaugurated the teaching of history at Al Akhawayn University. He, and another colleague, taught the first courses of Arab History, History of Morocco, and other graduate history classes during the first two years of the life of AUI.
He was specialized in the Moroccan rural history (XVIth to XIXth century) for which he obtained the Diplôme d’Etudes Supérieures from Mohammed V University in 1984, then he turned his attention to Moroccan-Ottoman history, the subject of his PhD dissertation at Princeton University in 1991.
The first alumni of AUI will remember him as an excellent professor and a superb human being who was very supportive of his students. His colleagues have always known him as a great scholar who distinguished himself also by his modesty and his human qualities. May he Rest In Peace. انا لله وانا اليه راجعون
