EU-Morocco Relations at the Heart of Al Akhawayn's "President's List Dinner"
Ifrane, November 27, 2019 - On Wednesday, November 27, 2019, Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane organized its "President's List Dinner" event in recognition of the best students of the Spring 2019 semester.
This meeting was marked by the presence of Dr. Amine BENSAID, President of the University, and her Excellency, Claudia WIEDEY, Ambassador and Head of the Delegation of the European Union in Morocco. On this occasion, Mrs. WIEDEY addressed, in front of an audience of 109 AUI students with remarkable backgrounds, a keynote speech on "EU-Morocco relations: current situation and future prospects".
According to Mrs. WIEDEY, the EU sees Morocco as a special partner in Africa given common ground and common interests. "We attach great importance to the development of education, in general, and higher education, especially in the Kingdom" insisted the Ambassador.
For his part, Dr. BENSAID pointed out that Al Akhawayn University has been involved in 15 projects of the European Union with a total budget of 35 million euros.
Dr. Bensaid also said that 76% of Al Akhawayn students have already benefited from an exchange program in one of the 130 partner institutions in Europe. The University, meanwhile, hosted, this semester, 21 students from six European countries, he added.
