Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane - Presidential Interns Feature Series: Syeda Khaula Saad

Presidential Interns Feature Series: Syeda Khaula Saad

Meet our Presidential Interns! Each year we welcome a new cohort of recent graduates to Al Akhawayn’s community. They bring unique experiences, educational backgrounds, and skills to their work in departments throughout the university. During the semester we will be highlighting each intern through a brief interview about their interests and time at AUI. This week, we are pleased to introduce Syeda Khaula Saad.

Syeda is serving as a Presidential Intern for the Office of the President. Syeda grew up in Jersey City, New Jersey and graduated from Rutgers University, where she majored in English, Journalism, and Media Studies with minors in Creative Writing and Women’s and Gender Studies. Since starting work in Ifrane, she’s joined the AUI volleyball team and is taking advantage of the salsa classes offered at the Fitness Center. She’s looking forward to participating in student trips throughout Morocco this year!

- How did you first learn about AUI and what drew you to the Presidential Internship?

I wanted to take a year abroad before figuring out what I wanted to do with the rest of my education/career path. I decided to apply to really gain perspective before deciding on anything.

- What’s one of your best experiences in Morocco so far?

I had the chance to attend a Moroccan wedding here in Morocco. I was also welcomed into the home of some amazing, hospitable people for the weekend. The wedding was beautiful, the hospitality was heartwarming, and it’s honestly an experience I will keep with me forever.

- What do you work towards in your free time?

I’ve been trying to exercise more and make friends. I’m trying to just live an all-around mentally, emotionally, physically healthier life.

- What’s your dream job?

I want to be an author or run a magazine.

- What’s your go-to book recommendation?

Americanah by Chimamanda Ngoze Adiche.
