SHSS Students Discover Beijing!
This spring break was exciting for International Studies students. In the framework of the Special Topics in International Relations and the International Field Seminar (IFS), students of Dr. Zaynab El Bernoussi, accompanied by Prof. Eric Ross, travelled to Beijing from the 2nd to 9th of March 2019. The week was filled with a tremendous program focused on discovering the key places and artefacts of the Chinese civilization. Indeed, the course program has allowed the group to build up strong knowledge on different issues. Dr. El Bernoussi and Prof. Ross - along with guest faculty from AUI and abroad - tackled a number of topics including Chinese politics, religion, urbanism, environment, economics, business ethics, and culture. The students had the opportunity to visit famous locations such as the Summer Palace and hiked three hours along the Great Wall. Political history was also part of their very busy schedule, with namely the visit of the Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City.
Generously hosted by the Chinese Foreign Affairs University in Beijing (CFAU), the top institution for diplomatic studies in China, the trip is a first for AUI in its endeavor to building a partnership for future cooperation. Finally, the visit of the embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Beijing gave students and faculty members the opportunity to meet HE Ambassador Aziz Mekouar and discuss global issues and Sino-Moroccan dynamics. The IFS students also had their share of fun by discovering the Chinese popular culture, cuisine, traditional clothing, and street life, which highly sparked their enthusiasm.
