Minister Toufiq presented to His Holiness Pope Francis the Ministry's new textbook entitled "Introduction to Christianity." co-authored by Dr. Connell Monette and Reverend Karen Thomas Smith of AUI
During the visit of His Holiness Pope Francis to Morocco, March 30th, His Excellency Minister Ahmed Toufiq presented the Pope with English and Arabic versions of the Ministry's new textbook entitled "Introduction to Christianity."
This textbook was co-authored by Dr. Connell Monette and Reverend Karen Thomas Smith of Al Akhawayn University. The text was translated into Arabic by Dr. Ali Azeriah, also from Al Akhawayn University, reviewed linguistically by Dr. Bouchaib Idrissi of the Tangier School of Translation, and then reviewed theologically by Catholic and Muslim experts from the Institute of Citizenship and Diversity Management at the Adyan Foundation, as well as Father Stéphane Delavelle of Meknes.
The book was published in March 2019 by the Mohammed VI Institute for Training Imams Mourchids and Mouchidates, which is part of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Endowments. The book is now being used for a special course in Christianity at the Mohammed VI Institute, which was first taught by special guest Dr. Joseph Maalouf of the Adyan Foundation, and introduced by Rev. Smith and Dr. Monette.
The book and course were featured on national television, available here at 09:00-09:30, and the presentation of the books to the Pope appears at 38:35.
