Presidential Interns Feature Series: Vol. 1

The first of the AUI Presidential Internship Program features is Gabrielle Leparik. Gabrielle is interning in the Office of the Vice President of Academic Affairs (VPAA). She is from Long Island, New York, and graduated from Hofstra University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science with a focus on the Middle East, and a minor in Graphic Design. After learning of Gabby’s interest in the Middle East/North Africa (MENA) Region and her desire to one day herself become a professor in a university, one of her professors suggested that Gabby should come to Morocco and specifically recommended the AUI PiP program. During her ten months at AUI Gabby hopes to learn as much Arabic as she can, both Fusha and Darija, and to interact with the people of Morocco as much as possible, and immerse herself in the culture. One of her goals during her stays is to visit as much of Morocco as she can to see the cultural and historical richness that is present in all parts of the country.

After completing this internship at AUI, Gabby plans to go to graduate school and get her doctorate in Anthropology, focusing on the MENA region pre-western colonization, and is excited to even further immerse herself in the culture and learn its history. She hopes that during her time here she can help give students a voice and offer them new opportunities that could enhance their experience while at the University.
