Improvement Week at AUI

From Monday, September 17 – Thursday, September 20 AUI hosted its second University Improvement Week.

The week was divided into four separate sessions, attended by the concerned vice presidents, deans, directors, and heads of units from:

1. Student Services, including units like Dining Services, Campus Store, Vice President of Student Affairs and the Health Center

2. Student Life, including units like the Communality Involvement Program, Athletics and Residential Life

3. Teaching and Learning, including SHSS, SSE, SBA, the Language Center, the Honors’ Program and

4. Academic Support Services, including Enrollment, Library, and Counseling.

At the beginning of each session, the Executive Director of the Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness (OIRE), Dr. Cherif Bel Fekih, presented the results of the Student Opinion Survey administered in Fall 2017. He then led a discussion that included Unit heads reacting to the students' comments and presented whatever progress had been made between the time of the survey and the beginning of the current semester.  It was an opportunity to present ongoing and planned actions in response to the comments made in the survey.

Students were able to ask questions and comment further. It was also an opportunity for all unit heads to listen to what their colleagues were doing to increase student satisfaction with teaching, learning, and overall student services.

While student participation was limited, OIRE, with the help of the Presidential Interns, is working to prepare summaries of each session so that all members of the community can learn of how the University is working to meet their needs.
