SSE Female Students ranked 2nd in a National Programming Contest!

When Manal Hamdi, Rim Benyaich, and Meryem Kassab—all Al Akhawayn SSE students—formed their team “We Code Like Girls” with the help of Student-Coach Achraf Mamdouh, it was with the express intent of winning: and that’s exactly what they did.

On Sunday, March 25th, in celebration of International Women’s Day, the team headed up to Rabat to participate in the Collegiate Programming Contest (GoCPC). The contest—alternatively referred to as “Girls Code III”—is the annual, women’s-only, coding contest organized by the Moroccan Associate for Computing Machinery (MACM) in conjunction with the Moroccan Chapter of the Arab Women in Computing (WIC).

During the contest, Hamdi, Benyaich, and Kassab competed against thirty-four other teams from twenty-five separate engineering and computer science school in fourteen cities. The team was asked to solve nine complex problem sets: they solved seven, coming in second place, helping AUI rank second in the entire event.

The contest welcomes all students and professionals willing to advance the computing profession in the nation. The 2018 Scoreboard will be posted as soon as it is made available.
