AUI Participates in the Youth Forum
This year marked the second iteration of Ajiw Tcharko’s youth forum. During this forum, 60 participants from AUI, ENCG Tanger, UIR, and Nador went to Tangier for a three day training—the culmination of a four-month long program—where they worked on policy recommendations directed towards the Taniger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Regional Council. They also went to the Council’s headquarters where they met M. Ilyas El Omari, President of the Region, in order to submit their recommendations and get feedback.
Ajiw Tcharko is a political participation program that was created for the civically-minded Moroccan youths of the Taniger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region. The program was formed in response to younger generations’ disenfranchisement with the current political system and to empower them in the wake of their lack of participation. Ajiw Tcharko allows the participating youths to debate, develop, and influence the ongoing political decisions that are important to them. This time around, that meant exploring unemployment, lack of quality education, low political participation, and cultural impoverishment.
The forum’s solutions—being pragmatic—were met with a positive outlook. Looking forward, M. El Omari has promised to keep the Ajiw Tcharko youth’s recommendations in mind, saying, with an air of cooperation, that “we will work together on it”.
