No Mountain High Enough: Alumna Samia Haimoura Becomes the Youngest Moroccan to Ever Climb Mount Kilimanjaro

At about 5 895 meters in elevation, Mount Kilimanjaro is among one of the tallest mountains in the world to reside above sea-level. Given how high the mountain climbs, it possess five distinct climates, ranging from lush, to arid, and finally to tundra. As such, the climb is not for the faint of heart.

Despite the challenge—or perhaps because of it—recent Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane (AUI) graduate and extreme sports enthusiast Samia Haimura (Class of 2017) recently undertook the treacherous mountain path. After seven hard days, Samia, under the sponsorship of her alma mater, became the youngest Moroccan to ever reach the mountain’s peak.

Samia, who currently resides in Germany where she started her own company, has said that Kilimanjaro is just the first of many grueling mountains she intends on undertaking.
AUI is incredibly proud of Samia, and is very excited to see what she does next.
