AUI Debate Team Achieves Victory in Great Debaters Regional Competition
On April 16th, Al Akhawayn University students participated in the Great Debaters Fes-Meknes Regional University Debate Competition (RUDC). Institutions from this region competed in several rounds in order to qualify for the national debate tournament taking place in Dakha this July.
In the Quarter Round, the AUI team competed first against ENSA Fes with the motion: “This House will limit the budget for hiring in the public service.” After debating this topic, AUI competed against ENCG Oujda with the motion: “This House believes that the education system must include religious education.”
After progressing to the Semi Finals, AUI students debated against ENCG Fes with the motion: “This House believes that Russia has destroyed Syria.” After a compelling debate, considered by the Great Debaters of Morocco to be the best semi-final in the history of the competition, AUI was named winner and continued on to the Final Round of the RUDC.
Competing with ENA Fes, the AUI team won the final round of completion with the motion: “This House believes that Morocco is making the right choice by liberalizing the Moroccan dirham.” With their great success, the AUI Debate Team qualified to compete in the upcoming national tournament.
