AUI Hosts Third Edition of the Med-Saharan Sports Challenge

The Athletics Department of Al Akhawayn University continued in its efforts to foster the collaboration and competition between both national and international universities by organizing and hosting the third edition of the Med-Saharan Sports Challenge. This event represents the first and only multidisciplinary international university sports tournament existing on the African continent. This year’s Med-Saharan Sports Challenge took place from April 14th to the 16th at AUI’s Ifrane campus. Over 200 student-athletes from ten different universities participated in the competition.

The following universities took part in the Med-Saharan Sports Challenge:

University of Pula (Croitia), West Point Academy (U.S.A.), the International University of Rabat, Mohammed V University in Rabat, Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane, Moulay Ismail University, the National School of Architecture, Taroudant Polytechnic Faculty, Mohammed VI Polytechnic University of Ben Guerir, and the National School of Commerce and Management in Casablanca.

The results of the tournament are listed below:

Women’s Football:

  • 1st Place awarded to Al Akhawayn University
  • 2nd Place awarded to Moulay Ismail University (Meknes)

Men’s Football:

  • 1st Place awarded to Mohammed V University in Rabat
  • 2nd Place awarded to Taroudant Polytechnic Faculty

Women’s Volleyball:

  • 1st Place awarded to the National School of Architecture
  • 2nd Place awarded to Al Akhawayn University

Men’s Volleyball:

  • 1st Place awarded to the International University of Rabat
  • 2nd Place awarded to the National School of Architecture

Men’s Handball:

  • 1st Place awarded to the Mohammed V University in Rabat

Women’s Basketball:

  • 1st Place awarded to the Mohammed V University in Rabat
  • 2nd Place awarded to Taroudant Polytechnic Faculty

Swimming Overall:

  • 1st Place awarded to Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane
  • 2nd Place awarded to the National School of Architecture
  • 3rd Place awarded to the International University of Rabat

Women’s Tennis:

  • 1st Place awarded to Selma Chohaib of Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane
  • 2nd Place awarded to Selma Charif of the National School of Commerce and Management in Casablanca

Men’s Tennis:

  • 1st Place awarded to Ouassim Belamine of Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane
  • 2nd Place awarded to Reda Rachidi of Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane

Women’s Table Tennis:

  • 1st Place awarded to Sara Ould Hassan of Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane
