SSE Students Place Third in Girls Code 2 Programming Contest

Al Akhawayn University’s SSE team, “Duplicates Plus I,” composed of Manal Hamdi, Maha Hamdi, and Imane Chkoukout, won a bronze medal in the Girls-Only Programming Contest, known as Girls Code 2, co-organized by the Moroccan Association for Computing Machinery (MACM) and Morocco’s Chapter of Arab Women in Computing (ArabWIC) at the International University in Rabat (UIR).

The competition was composed of 37 official teams and 12 unofficial teams representing sixteen different institutions of higher education located in nine cities. The driving purpose of Girls Code 2 is to actively encourage female students to explore and integrate skills for Competitive Programming. Team members were assigned one computer to solve problem sets using programming and teamwork skills. For five hours, teams competed to submit their solutions to a Panel of judges for evaluation.

The team “Coder for Life,” from ENSA Marrakech won the gold medal in the completion, followed by the team “Codemon” from ENSAM Meknes. “Coder for Life” will advance to the Moroccan Collegiate Programming Contest (MCPC), which is a qualifying round to the Arab Collegiate Programming Contest (ACPC) and eventually the World Finals: International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC).  ACPC was founded at AUI in 1998, by SSE alumnus Sidi Ali Maelainin, and is headquartered in the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT), in Egypt.
