Students from the AUI Model United Nations Club won prizes at the North Africa International Model United Nations 2014 (NAIMUN) conference in Marrakech this past September. AUI’s delegation, composed of 25 students and headed by Dr. Jack Kalpakian, represented various countries including the Republic of Sudan, Canada and the Czech Republic.
During the three-day conference, students acting as diplomats discussed global issues ranging from the legitimacy of government’s espionage to the promotion of social and economic prosperity in post-conflict countries. They were joined by peers from top universities in Morocco, the United Kingdom, Tunisia, Egypt and Sri Lanka, among others.
AUI students were honored with five awards: Anas Chihab won Best Committee Chair, Ghassan Mhaifid won Best Position Paper and Imane Bermaki won the award of Best Delegate in the Social and Economic Council Committee, and Ahmed Chakroun won awards for both Best Delegate and Best Position Paper in the Special Political and Decolonization Committee.
