Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane - AUI Language Center Re-accredited for Ten Years

AUI Language Center Re-accredited for Ten Years

After an initial accreditation for five years in 2009, the Language Center of the University has been officially re-accredited by the CEA (Commission on English Language Program Accreditation) for ten years, the only one in Africa with the American University in Cairo, to receive such a distinction, and one of a dozen outside the United States.

Accreditation looks at 44 standards, of which: the level of training and skills of teachers and researchers, the quality of programs, curricula, examinations, tests and other evaluation forms, academic and administrative support, personalized student follow up, the use of Information Technology and Communication (ICT) program evaluation and review, etc. Quality assurance has been one of the strategic choices and academic orientations of Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane. Several programs have received accreditation and the institution as a whole is in the final stages of accreditation by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).

The Language Center of Al Akhawayn University, which currently hosts nearly 300 students with 21 teachers specialized in teaching English as a foreign language, aims to equip  students with the necessary English before they start academic programs. "They study English so that they can study in English," says Dr. Moncef Lahlou, founding director of the Language Center, adding, "We are proud of this recognition, which is also an incentive to maintain our high standards. It is worth noting that the center was the first to use information technology since Al Akhawayn University had the first Internet node in Morocco with a direct connection to Europe."

Founded in 1999 by English language professionals as an agency specializing in accreditation, CEA aims to ensure quality in English language programs. It is part of a consortium of American accreditation bodies themselves recognized and accredited by the federal government of the United States through its Department of Education. It ensures compliance with a number of globally accepted standards and implements evaluation procedures.

Congratulations to the LC Director, LC faculty and administration.
