Al Akhawayn Students Introduced to Cross-Cultural Training
Ifrane, September 26, 2012 – Bassou El Mansour, Associate Professor of Human Resource Development at Indiana State University discussed “Cross-Cultural Training” on September 20, 2012 at Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane.
“This meeting on cross-cultural training is an opportunity to foster our collaboration ties with the HRD Department at Indiana State University to promote student and faculty exchange programs and joint research projects,” said Karim Moustaghfir, Associate Professor of Human Resource Development at Al Akhawayn School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS).
About 50 Al Akhawayn Human Resource Development students and several faculty members attended the lecture organized by SHSS. Starting with a definition of the concept of cross-cultural training, El Mansour discussed with the students the importance of this field, its main goals, and the steps to develop such a training program. Issues such as language, culture shock, family, and work environment were described by El Mansour as main areas of focus while designing a cross cultural training program. Integration helps trainees better communicate and understand each other’s cultures. In addition, pre-and-post training evaluations are, to El Mansour, important aspects of the success of trainees and the program.
“This is essentially linked to global organizational strategy,” said Moustaghfir. “The success of any organization depends on how prepared its workforce is to adapt, adjust, and accommodate to specific cultural needs and differences.”
Al Akhawayn University offers among the undergraduate programs at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences a Bachelor of Arts in Human Resource Development. Al Akhawayn’s HRD program aims at introducing students to the field of HRD, and focuses on developing the core competencies they will need in the job market.
