Al Akhawayn Alumna Joins Emerging Leaders in Technology Fields from the MENA
Ifrane, May 29, 2012 – Al Akhawayn alumna Houda Chakiri (‘03) was selected to the TechWomen Program which will take place over five weeks from 5 September to 11 October, 2012.
Among 550 women applicants from the Middle East and North Africa, Houda’s application for the first time to the TechWomen initiative was accepted in addition to three other young women entrepreneurs in the field of technology in Morocco.
Houda Chakiri created her own start up “Enhanced Technologies” in 2005. It was first incubated at Al Akhawayn University and now is currently in the phase of business development working on projects with public administrations in many cities in Morocco such as Casablanca, El Jadida, Safi, and others. The enterprise offers developing web application for governmental offices and different types of software that manage their human resources, financial status, and other services as well.
Having been selected to take part in this special program, Houda said “This is a good program meant to encourage women working in the technical field. I promised during my application interview that I will do my best to promote technology among young girls in the region of Ifrane.” She added “I have already planned for a workshop next November to train high school students to manage the Linux program hoping to inspire them to be interested in the field of science and technology.”
The TechWomen program works to empower women and girls through technology. It connects and supports the next generation of women in technology sectors by providing them the access and the opportunity needed to pursue careers in technology.
