Al Akhawayn Students Triumph in the 2011 Pan Arab Games in Doha
Ifrane, December 29, 2011 – Al Akhawayn University student athletes won gold and bronze medals in the recent 12th Quadrennial Pan Arab Games, which took place in Doha, Qatar, on December 6-23, 2011.
Twenty-one countries from around the Arab world participated in this multi-sport event, which was held for the first time in Qatar. Al Akhawayn student athletes played within the Moroccan official teams and competed in karate and swimming.
In karate, both business and engineering student Rahima Nouasse (’11 and ‘13) and business student Fatima Zahrae Nouasse (‘14) won gold medals in under 68Kg and over 68Kg championships, respectively. Both students also won the bronze medal in the karate team competition. In swimming, engineering student Amine Kouame (‘15) won the bronze medal in the 50m-backstroke competition.
Overall, Morocco has won a total of 113 medals (35 gold, 24 silver, and 54 bronze), placing itself in the third rank in the 2011 Pan Arab Games medal tally, after Tunisia and Egypt.
